Saluting a different set of heroes

Here in New Zealand, we moved down to Alert Level 3 of our COVID restrictions. Although this means that many have gone back to work and many more are out in the "world" (that is our island country), it doesn't mean a whole lot for one of the bravest class of heroes. Socially we are still expected to isolate for our own protection and around the world, many are still in lockdown. So today's piece is dedicated to the beautiful little humans who have been STARS when it comes to doing exactly this.

They are truly HEROES

Unexpected heroes

We have saluted frontliners

We have saluted the brave

We have said our thanks to those still working

and those that continue to save

But there is a group of little heroes

that many overlook

A group of smiling people

That are stepping out of the storybook

Today I want to thank the beautiful children

because their entire life has shifted

from playing in the park with friends

to waiting for lockdown to be lifted

Yet still they smile

and enjoy every day

Still they adapt to their situation

no longer asking when again they will play

They accept the way the world is

and make many around them smile, no doubt

They accept that their friends have to wait

in the meantime, growing up and running about

Let’s love on them for who they are

Let’s encourage them for who they will become

Because growing up within this pandemic

has its own, unique FUN

Thank you to all the kiddies out there who have been sticking with it so we can one day go back to some form of normal were you can play with your friends and play in the parks and see all your favourite teachers again. We love you and we honour you.

You are brave. You are loved. You are courageous. And you will carry this world into the next beautiful phase of life.
